JSK

I need to acquire some large pavitra's and other pushti-marg vaishnav items for  Thakorji but as I am in the UK at the moment I am struggling to find a place in London that I can get them from.  I would be very grateful if someone could please direct me to somewhere in the UK (preferably London) where I can find some as well as other items used in our seva as I have found most asian stores sell limited things for vaishnav seva .  If there is an online store this would also be helpful.

Thank you for your time, JSK

Karan Pandya.

Jai Shri Krishna

Pavitras, etc can be found in wembley and kingsbury in selected shops. However, atleast with regards to pavitras, it is good to make them by one's own hands for Shri Thakorji.

Best Wishes

Jai Shri Krishna,

Thank you for considering me for this matter, however i am not qualified to explain this. The only and best way to learn this art is from Shri Vallabhkul and from the advanced vaishnavs. If anyone is willing to share their knowledge and experience, we would be very grateful.

what little i have learnt is as follows and i would be very grateful for further clarfcations and details on this wonderful subject of Pavitras:
- One should be in a clean state when making them, just like in seva and preparing samagris, etc (e.g. in apras).
- The pavitras would be made from normal cotton thread (Although these days we also see resham?)
- The length of the pavitra should be good which would cater for the number of strands of thread and knots in them (e.g., 108, 54, 27 etc. all these add up to 9, e.g., 108 = 1+0+8 = 9). Each strand/string of cotton and knot represents the day of the year. The number of strings of cotton is 360 for each day of the year. This is usually one long string which is folded/doubled many tiimes to add up to 360 (many times this is not practical so the number is reduced as above - please seek clarifications on these.)

- Keep sufficient distance at each end to close the loop
- When preparing the knots and the knots should be equal distance from each other.
- Once complete soak the pavtira in kesar water for a good while to make them kesari and leave them to dry overnight or leave them plain cotton as per requirement. (little more than a pinch of kesar in luke warm water would be prepared before starting to make the pavitras)

Also, it is important to know the bhaav and mahatmya behind offering pavitras as this will certainly increase one's anand when making them for Shri Thakorji and for Shri Vallabh/one's guruji

Best Wishes
