252 Vaishnav Varta 168 - Prasang of the Husband and Wife of Rajnagar

Now the sentiment of the account of a male and female sevak of Shri Gusainji who lived in Rajnagar, and from whose counting of money five jewels emerged, is spoken.

Bhav Prakash (Revealing the Sentiment): These are sattvic devotees. In the divine play their names are Pitvarni and Kunkumvarni. Pitvarni became the man here, and Kunkumvarni became the woman. Both manifested from Rasatmika; therefore their forms are of devotional sentiment.

Prasang 1 – Receiving the Name from Shri Gusainji Once Shri Gusainji had come to Rajnagar. At that time he stayed at the house of Bhaila Kothari. Then this husband and wife received the darshan of Shri Gusainji. They made a humble request, saying, “Maharajadhiraj! Please bestow Your grace upon us and give us the Name.” Then Shri Gusainji commanded, “Go bathe and return.” They bathed and came back. Afterwards, with folded hands, they humbly submitted, “Maharaj!” “Please bestow Your grace and accept us into Your refuge.” Then Shri Gusainji mercifully gave the Name to both of them. Afterwards He made them perform a vow and granted Brahmasambandh. Then the husband and wife humbly asked, “Maharaj! What should we do now?” Then Shri Gusainji instructed them, “Both of you should perform Bhagavad-seva.” Then they said, “Maharaj! Please graciously establish seva upon our heads.” Then Shri Gusainji established the seva of Shri Thakurji for them. Afterwards He taught them all the proper methods and ways of seva. Then He gave the instruction, “Daily, first have one Vaishnava partake of Mahaprasad, and afterwards take Mahaprasad yourselves.” After this Shri Gusainji departed for the darshan of Shri Ranchhodji.

Then that husband and wife began serving Shri Thakurji very properly. Daily they would first have one Vaishnava partake of Mahaprasad, and only afterwards would they themselves take Mahaprasad. After some days Shri Thakurji began manifesting affectionate divine experiences to them. Whatever He desired, He would ask from them, and He bestowed much grace upon them. In this manner many days passed.

Then one day that Vaishnava husband went to another land. Before leaving, he said to his wife, “Continue serving Mahaprasad daily to one Vaishnava in the same way as we always do, and afterwards take Mahaprasad yourself. Also keep count of it.” She replied, “I will do exactly so.” Then that Vaishnava departed abroad. The woman continued exactly as instructed. Daily she would serve Mahaprasad to one Vaishnava, and each day she would place aside one coin. In this way a whole year passed, and then the Vaishnava returned. He asked his wife, “How many Vaishnavas have you served Mahaprasad to? Show me the count.” The wife said, “Count the coins.” Then her husband counted the coins. There were three hundred and sixty coins, and among them five jewels emerged. Then the husband asked, “What is this? How did these jewels come here?”

Then the wife said to her husband, “I only placed coins there.” Afterwards the husband and wife took everything and came to Shri Gokul before Shri Gusainji. Then they humbly submitted, “Maharaj! What is the reason for this? The wife daily placed one coin and served Mahaprasad to one Vaishnava, yet among these coins five jewels have appeared. What is the reason for this?” Then Shri Gusainji said, “These five Tadrasi Bhagavadiyas came there.” Afterwards Shri Gusainji Himself said, “This alone is what a Vaishnava should desire.”

Bhav Prakash (Revealing the Sentiment): In this account the principle is established that one should daily first have a Vaishnava partake of Mahaprasad, and only afterwards oneself take Mahaprasad. This is the true dharma of a Vaishnava — to first offer Mahaprasad to another Vaishnava and then partake oneself. By doing this, the principles of the path become firmly established in the heart, attachment toward the Lord develops, and then the seva of the Lord is performed properly.

That husband and wife were such beloved recipients of grace and divine devotees of Shri Gusainji. Therefore the extent of their account cannot be fully described. How much can really be said of it?
