252 Vaishnav Varta 182 - A Vrajvasi from Rawal

Now the sentiment (inner meaning) of the account of a Vrajvasi of Rawal, who was a sevak of Shri Gusainji, is being narrated.

Bhav Prakash (Revealing the Sentiment): This is a tamasic devotee. In the divine play, his name is Manohar Gopa. He manifested from Vanavedi; therefore his devotional sentiment is of that form.

Prasang 1 – The Brajvasi of Rawal Finds the Divine Pichkari One day, he came to Shri Gokul. After arriving, he had the darshan of Shri Gusainji and submitted a request: “Maharaj, please bestow your grace upon me and give me the Name.” Then Shri Gusainji mercifully bestowed the Name upon him. Afterward, Shri Gusainji asked, “Do you live in Rawal?” The Brajvasi replied, “Maharaj, I live only in Rawal.” Then Shri Gusainji asked, “What work do you do?” He replied, “Maharaj, I take all the village cows out for grazing.” Shri Gusainji said, “Good. Come here occasionally.” The Brajvasi replied, “Maharaj, now I have become your sevak. I may not be able to come every day, but I will come from time to time.” Then Shri Gusainji gave him permission, saying, “Now you may go.” Thereupon he returned to Rawal.

After reaching Rawal, he continued daily taking the cows out to graze. Once, during the days of Phagun, he was grazing the cows far away up to Chintaharan and wandering through the forest. There, gulal had been showered. He saw gulal, abir, and chova everywhere. While observing all this, he continued walking ahead. Then he found a jeweled pichkari. He offered dandavat pranam and picked it up in his hand. Then he thought, “I shall place this into the holy hands of Shri Gusainji.” He also gathered a little of the gulal and abir. After offering dandavat again, he returned to Rawal. After reaching Rawal, he delivered all the cows to their respective homes and then came to Shri Gokul.

There he offered dandavat to Shri Gusainji and submitted: “Maharaj, I was grazing cows at Chintaharan. I wandered far away, and there I saw a great showering of gulal. I also saw abir, chova, sandalwood, and many such things. Maharaj, I offered dandavat and brought back cloth stained with those colors, and I also brought some gulal.” He showed all these things to Shri Gusainji. He also showed the colored cloth and placed the pichkari into Shri Gusainji’s holy hands. Upon seeing them, Shri Gusainji became greatly pleased and said to the Brajvasi: “Come, show us that place.” The Brajvasi replied, “Maharaj, please come.”

Then Shri Gusainji mounted a horse and set out. The Brajvasi walked ahead while Shri Gusainji followed on horseback. When they reached the place where the gulal had been showered, the Brajvasi stood there, and Shri Gusainji arrived. Shri Gusainji carefully observed everything. He saw the place where the gulal and abir had been showered. After taking darshan there, Shri Gusainji rolled upon that spot. Then he collected some abir, gulal, and pieces of the colored cloth and returned to Shri Gokul. That night, Shri Gusainji came to his meeting place and recited the sacred discourse. The Brajvasi listened to it. When the discourse ended, he came before Shri Gusainji and offered dandavat.

Then Shri Gusainji instructed him: “Do not return to Rawal now. It is already very late at night. Rise early in the morning and then go. For now, take Mahaprasad.” Shri Gusainji then ordered a khavas: “Provide him with excellent ansakhadi Mahaprasad and laddus. Give him whatever he asks for.” The khavas took him and instructed the storekeeper: “Give him whichever Mahaprasad he desires.” The storekeeper accordingly served him Mahaprasad. Afterward, the Brajvasi came again before Shri Gusainji. Shri Gusainji then gave him a prasadi upper cloth, scented with saffron and chova, and draped it over him. The Brajvasi became greatly delighted.

Then Shri Gusainji instructed him: “You should sleep here in this meeting place tonight.” Further, Shri Gusainji ordered: “You should come regularly to this meeting place and bring news of the forest in this manner.” The Brajvasi replied, “Very well, Maharaj, I shall do so.” Thus he slept in the meeting place that night. The next morning he rose and returned to Rawal. Then he took the cows and went again into the forest. In the evening he returned home, and every night he would come to Shri Gusainji. Shri Gusainji always showered grace upon him. Then he attained knowledge of his own divine form. Thereafter the Brajvasi submitted: “Maharaj, please grant me Brahma-Sambandha.”

Bhav Prakash (Revealing the Sentiment): He requested Brahma-Sambandha so that his relationship with the divine play might become firmly established. Then Shri Gusainji said: “Very well. Tomorrow we shall grant you Brahma-Sambandha.” The next day, out of grace, Shri Gusainji bestowed Brahma-Sambandha upon that Brajvasi. Afterward, Shri Gusainji instructed him: “Take the juthan here.” He also had a portion distributed to him, saying: “Take it with you into the forest.” He did so, and when he returned from the forest at night, he partook of it.

Thereafter, whenever he came regularly according to his daily discipline, he would have the darshan of Shri Gusainji. Shri Gusainji would daily have a portion distributed to him, which he would take and then return to Rawal. This Brajvasi was such a greatly blessed Bhagavadiya, fully favored by the grace of Shri Gusainji, that the extent of his story cannot be measured. How much of it can possibly be told?
