252 Vaishnav Varta 200 - A woman whose son robbed travelers

Now the sentiment (bhav) of the account of a woman sevak of Shri Gusainji, whose son used to rob travelers on the road, is being explained.

Bhav Prakash (Revealing the Sentiment): This mother and son are both tamasic devotees. In the divine play, they belong to the group of Pulindinis. In the lila, the mother's name is Maruvi, and the son's name is Garuvi. They manifested from Nrityakala; therefore, such are their devotional forms and sentiments.

Prasang 1 – The Mother and Son Take Shelter of Shri Gusainji Once, Shri Gusainji departed from Shri Gokul to have the darshan of Shri Ranchhodji. On the way, there was a village in Godwar. There Shri Gusainji arrived and set up camp. He prepared the meal, offered bhog to Shri Thakurji at the proper time, and after the offering was completed, He Himself took His meal. Then, at night, He rested there. The next morning, He arose, completed His bodily duties, brushed His teeth, performed Sandhyavandan, and was engaged in japa and recitation. At that time, that woman received the darshan of Shri Gusainji.

Then the woman thought within herself, “It would be very good if I go to His refuge. Then my purpose will be fulfilled.” So the woman submitted a request to Shri Gusainji, saying, “Maharaj! Please bestow Your grace upon me and give me the Name.” Then Shri Gusainji ordered her, “Go and bathe, and then come.” The woman bathed and returned. Then she prayed to Shri Gusainji, “Maharaj! Please be gracious and give me the Name. Please make my life successful.” Then Shri Gusainji mercifully gave her the Name. The woman then offered a gift according to her capacity.

That woman's son was the headman of the village. He used to waylay travelers and plunder the roads. Such were his activities. That son also received the darshan of Shri Gusainji. The very moment he had darshan, his understanding changed. He came before Shri Gusainji and said: “Maharaj! Please be merciful and give me the Name as well, and make me Your sevak.” Then Shri Gusainji said, “You rob travelers on the roads; therefore, I will not make you a sevak.” The man folded both hands and humbly prayed: “Maharaj! From today onward, I give up this work. I will farm, or I will take employment, but I will never do this work again.”

Then Shri Gusainji became very pleased with him and said, “From today onward, never engage in such work again.” Thereafter, Shri Gusainji mercifully gave him the Name and made him a sevak. Then, seeing him, the entire village became sevaks of Shri Gusainji. Everyone gave up robbery and theft. All began to engage in farming. Whenever they prepared food in their homes, they would mix into it the Charanamrit of Shri Nathji and Shri Gusainji. Afterward, Shri Gusainji proceeded to Shri Dwarkaji. Then, after some days, He returned from there and arrived back at Shri Gokul.

Bhav Prakash (Revealing the Sentiment): The intention of this account is that a Vaishnava should not accumulate wealth through irreligious means. One should maintain oneself through farming, service, or trade; then the Lord becomes pleased. And one should never perform any action that causes suffering to another person.

That woman was such a recipient of Shri Gusainji’s grace and such a devotee of Bhagavan that through her association the entire village came into refuge.
