Jai Jai Shree Gokulesh,
The festival of Makar Sankranti is based on the solar calendar unlike the rest of Indian festivals, which are based on the lunar calendar. Makar Sankranti falls on the day of the year when the sun considered the king of all grahas- is in the rashi known as Makar. The calculations for determining Makar Sankranti are done according to the solar calendar. Therefore, Makar Sankranti always falls on the 14th January according to English calendar. It is usually he month of Magh of the Hindu calendar, the Tithi or the position of the moon keeps shifting because of the difference in calculations.
During six months of the year, the days are longer than the nights. During the other six months, the nights are longer than the days. The first period is called Uttarayana. Then the sun moves north from the centre of the sky. The second period is Dakshinaayaria. The sun moves southwards now. The Uttarayan starts roughly in the period January- February. The day Uttarayan starts is called Makar Sankranti. The day of Devtas starts by Makar Sankranti.

Jai Shri Krishna,
Please excuse my ignorance. It would be nice to know the reasons and bhaavs for offering bog made from ingredients such as Tal/Til and Mumra Ladoos on these days and the bhaavs for the days leading upto Makar Sankranti (such as Bhogi Sankranti, etc)
Best Wishes Jagdish

Jjsg,
Khichdo we offers to Shriji on makar sankranti, can make from 7 dhaan ; jaar , bajri , gehu , chokha , chanadal , moongdal , tuverdal. I.e. mixture of all ras and not a single ras is left for angikaar of Shri Prabhu. Mitho , kharo , khato , tickho , turo , kadvo and seventh dharmi. This is as per my knowledge.
Tiparo - This is a shringar of Shri Prabhu's shrimastak and it can be of metal(gold) , moti , jadau , diamond and resham too.
Can anybody explain why with tiparo we offer generally mallakachh vastra?
