Shri Mulchandra Telivala

The following is a short version of Shri Mulchandra Telivala's life-sketch that appeared in the Vaishnav Parivar, Feb 2000.

It would be rare to find a Pushtimargiya vaishnav who wouldn't have heard of Shri Mulchandra Telivala's name. He was a top class scholar of Vedanta and had firm faith in Lord Shri Vallabha. He was born 115 years ago on 23rd September 1887 in a humble family at Bharuch. Though physically weak bodied, he was academically brilliant, always standing first in his studies. He received B.A. in the tough subject of Vedanta from Mumbai. In 1914, he got the LL.B. degree and joined the Bombay High Court as an advocate.

At Mumbai, he came in contact with many Pu. Go. Acharyas, Shastrijis and Vaishnavs. He got the access to the libraries of Shri Kashidasa Narayandas and Pandit Shri Gattulalji. When Shri Maganlal Shastri was away to Pune, he provided the Mumbai Vaishnavs with Satsang on Anubhashya and Tattvartha Dip Nibandh. He also won the "Zhala Vedanta Prize" for his thesis on To What Extent Shankaracharya Truly Represents The Thoughts Of Brahmasutra's Composer.

In 1916, he published his first book containing 12 treaties on the Sevafal grantha of Shri Mahaprabhuji. Then his publication never stopped, sometimes even more than one books were under publication process. His publications include commentaries on most of the ShodashGranths as well as many rare books. His book on Siddhant Rahasya clarified all doubts about BrahmaSambandha that were prevailing. He also received blessings from Pu. Go. 108 Shri Vrajaratnalalji Maharajshri, Pu. Go. 108 Shri Devakinandanji Maharajshri etc for his literary service.

While doing all these services, he saw many social and economic downturns, but he always maintained his bliss. His strong faith at the lotus feet of Shri Mahaprabhuji kept him fearless. Whenever there was an attack on our Sampradaya, he gave a full punch authoritative reply. He left for the Devine Abode, on 26th June, 1927 at a young age of 39 years only. Shri Mulchandra Telivala will always be remembered blissfully for his services to Pushtimarg Sampradaya. Pu. Go. 108 Shri ShyamManoharji Maharajshri has published all his Sanskrit compositions with a commentory and thus honoured his service.

This is my humble attempt which is bound to errors and thus may not truly repersent the devine character of Shri Mulchand Telivala. Please pardon me for any mistakes.
