Jai jai shri gokulesh

Dipikaji, Lord Krishna had 16,108 spouses. 8 were his principal spouses. 16000 were rescued from Narakasura. And I dont know the other 100 spouses.

Would like other vaishnav's to reply.

Jai Shri Krishna,

These are a just few thoughts... please feel free to add to them or make any corrections.

Firstly, Lord Krishna is the supreme God, He can do anything He likes (anything He does is never wrong - who are we to question His actions?). Also, the fact that in a previous time and age He had promised them that He would marry them. So He was keeping His promise.

I think it is around 16,000 or 16,108 Queens (Ranis). He actually married them on their humble request after having rescued the majority of  them from an evil king/demon who was going to sacrifice them so that he could become immortal. He was keeping and maintaining their honour, because after having been captive of the demon king who in "society" would look at them or marry them. So Krishna shows how big hearted He is by accepting them.

So in this capacity, Shri Krishna also married them as their rescuer/hero and also He was a King and had the capacity and capability to maintain many wives. Kings or Kingly people (who are wealthy enough) were/are allowed to have multiple wives, provided they can abide by the respected vedic injunctions (rules and regulations).

However to set the right direction, even He lived by all these rules and regulations and kept all of His wives equally happy and entertained at the same time (simultaneously) - This was actually tested by the great sage-devotee Naradji. No human can do this and hence in our custom it states that unless we can keep our partners/wives happy we should only have one wife (even that one it is difficult to keep happy all the time).

If we look at the example of Lord Ram - He was Ek-Patnivrata - it was his Vrat to be devoteed to one wife. Lord Ram's avataar was much before Shri Krishna's.

In this day and age this is not practicle as we are not able to live even by a fraction of these guidelines and so in the customs of our society we cannot marry more than one wife... as it would be totally unfair on the other(s).

Also one needs to seek the permission of the wife/wives before approaching to marry others... In case of Shri Krishna there was never any opposition. They all gave their consent and they all lived happily together.

Best Wishes
jagdish

dear vaishnavs  jsk

hinduisum has no set rules on how many wifes a hindu can have

when our land came under the rule  of yavans it was there rule that hindus may only marry once to check the growth of population of non muslims

hindus sanatan dharma  commands protection of  cow brahmin women and motherland

to offer protection to women more marriages for hindu were allowed by vedic cultures

now about the 16000 wifes of krishana

this rescued women were would they go  who would marry them

what statues would the society offer them

lord who protects all decides to marry them all to offer protection to this rescued women

who otherwies would have faced all the calamities resulting in poluted society and varnashankar

population

now this are the views mentioned in garga samhita  garga rishi has documented each and every event of lives of both  krishna and balarams in his great epic  garga samhita
